Sembcorp unveils 18MWp solar farm at PSA''s Keppel Terminal
It is designed to be modular and flexible, using a mobile transformer and hybrid substations, which, along with the solar panels, can be easily redeployed to other sites, says
Similar to the rest of the world, Singapore's current energy infrastructure cannot support the fluctuating availability of solar energy. The sun doesn't shine at night, and adverse weather conditions impact generation, making solar still too intermittent as a major energy supply.
The plant harnesses energy from the sun — Singapore's most available renewable resource — and converts it into electricity. The generation process does not release carbon into the atmosphere, making it a clean alternative to using fossil fuels that can help mitigate climate change.
The solar farm is expected to produce around 22,500 megawatt hours of electricity annually – which is the amount of energy required to power more than 5,000 four-room Housing and Development Board flats in Singapore for one year.
