Criteria for Selecting a Residual-Current Device
The integrated all-pole sensitive residual-current monitoring unit (RCMU) results in additional safety. For inverters with grounding conductor monitoring, this must be activated.
RCMU (Residual Current Monitoring Unit). If no RCMU is integrated, then an external Type B RCD is required at the AC side of the PV inverter. Due to the parasitic capacitances of the PV modules (metal frames) to earth a high leakage current (capacitive AC residual current) is to be expected.
The SUN2000 series inverters have such an integrated RCMU. Due to the inverters' circuit design, they can't feed in direct residual current into the grid. If the standard take as a basis for the building of PV system or the grid company requests external RCD (Residual Current Device), a RCD type A can be used for all SUN2000 series inverters.
Solis inverters have a residual current monitoring unit (RCMU) integrated inside which complies with the requirements of IEC 62109-1 and IEC 62109-2. In case of a sudden change in residual current, Solis inverters will disconnect from the grid within the following time specified in the table and show alarm code accordingly.
SolaX's recommendation All SolaX inverters have an integrated RCMU and relay measuring both AC and DC component. Due to the inverters' circuit design, they can't feed in direct residual current into the grid. SolaX inverters are approved for use of Type A RCD.
