There is one power plant for every 25,653 people in San Diego County, and one power plant for every 32 square miles. San Diego County ranks 43rd of 58 counties in California for number of power plants per capita, and 9th of 58 counties for number of power plants per square mile.
Each year, San Diego Gas & Electric, San Diego Community Power and the Clean Energy Alliance are required — along with all other “load serving entities” across the state — to verify all the energy resources they use and then post their Power Content Labels.
San Diego Community Power purchases power for more than 950,000 customer accounts in the cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, La Mesa, Encinitas, Imperial Beach, National City and the unincorporated areas of San Diego County. It's the second-largest CCA in the state.
The state releases a breakdown of power sources for 2023 as well as SDG&E and San Diego's 2 community choice energy programs. Subscribers are entitled to 10 gift sharing articles each month. These can be shared with friends and family who are not subscribers.
