BGE warns 10 ways to avoid massive power outages tonight
Baltimore Gas & Electric customers across the region received an urgent warning today to begin conserving electricity immediately following an unexpected substation failure
This morning, a power plant that serves BGE customers experienced an unplanned disconnection from the BGE electric system. This was due to a transmission equipment issue impacting the BGE electric system. BGE continues to coordinate with the plant's owner to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

Earlier, BGE had warned customers of a possible widespread outage because a power plant that serves BGE customers experienced “an unplanned disconnection from the BGE electric system,” according to a news release.
As such, BGE is asking all customers to immediately conserve electricity through Monday night. "Energy conservation helps reduce the potential for an outage," BGE said in a statement. "If an outage becomes necessary, we will make every effort to alert customers in advance."
BGE and PJM took measures to mitigate the potential for outages. BGE issued a call for conservation to customers. BGE also initiated emergency PeakRewards and ConnectedRewards cycling events. These efforts helped lower load and relieve strain on the grid, and have been lifted.
