Clearway Begins Construction of Two Solar + Storage Projects in
In 2019, the company completed construction and commissioning of three utility-scale solar projects: a 45.9 MW site in Waipi''o and a 14.7 MW site in Mililani, both in central
They've made a huge leap forward with the Lāwa'i Solar and Energy Storage Project, which will single-handedly deliver roughly 11 percent of Kaua'i's power, making the island more than 50 percent powered by renewables. The project is–what they claim to be–the world's largest solar-plus-storage peaker. The plant is located on the island of Kaua'i.

KIUC's president and CEO David Bissell is quoted as saying at the unveiling on Tuesday; “Now that the Lāwa'i project is online, as much as 40 percent of our evening peak power will be supplied by stored solar energy. I think it's safe to say this is a unique achievement in the nation and possibly the world.”
The energy storage system at Punahou School is a 4.44 MWh Tesla Powerpack, which extends the delivery window of solar electricity by storing it during the day and making it available to the customer at night (so-called "load-shifting") while also providing resiliency in the event of a grid interruption.
